MTAHA April Meeting Minutes

MTAHA April 17 meeting minutes. Calsonic Arena, 4:00 p.m.

Prior to the general meeting, there was to be a BOD meeting, but all BOD members were not present, and some MTAHA members were in attendance. Also, some BOD members were called away to prepare for the Drill Team demo that evening. Therefore, it is unclear when the BOD meeting became the general meeting, though President Jennifer Schanhals called a meeting to order at 4:49 p.m.

All present for some portion of the meeting(s):Jennifer Schanhals, Darlene Dixon-Bottorff, Marcia Richardson, Andra Kowalczyk Martens, Eva Woodring, Lora Chilton, Angie Belgard, Scherra Vallely, Gail McKernan, Mary Ann McCarthy, Kevin Willams, Sarah Bulter, Greg, Heidi, and Rebekah Stoegner, Shelly Fugitt, Rebekah Hall, Stannye Scott, Danny Thompson, and John Morici.

Motion by Shelly Fuggit, 2nd by Danny Thompson to hold the approval of the minutes when they can be read at our next meeting.  Motion passed.

Marcia gave the Treasure’s Report, noting the balance plus CD. She stated that there were two recent expenditures, one for the deposit for the Fun Show at Clearview Farm and one for insurance. She also stated there would be two upcoming expenditures: one for a deposit for the Music City Show at Miller Colesium, and on fore Fun Show ribbons.

Danny talked about the Fun Show coming up on May 29, 2010 which will be held at Clear View Horse Farm in Shelbyville, TN.  Volunteers still needed.

Jennifer reported that this year there should not be a conflict with our Music City Show and Sport Horse Nations. It is going to be in Idaho this year.  The Music City Show may have to change dates for 2011 and beyond when it will come back to Lexington, KY.

No charge for members to sign up for the MTAHA High Point Program, but is open to any non-member for a fee, check our website.

Jennifer & Danny will attend the TN 4-H 5th annual MTSU Horse Program Awards Banquet Horse Awards. MTAHA is donating $ 1,500.00 to the MTSU Horse Program & Three individual $ 250.00 Scholars.

There was some discussion for ideas of membership drive, with the goal of reaching a total membership number of at least 101 in order to earn a third delegate for convention. New members would need to be signed up by June 1. John Morici has recently signed up several new members in TN, TX, and WI. As of the date of this meeting, there were 92 members. (This number as of May 18, 2010 has dropped to 85 total.)

There was a review of Committee members. So far the Bylaws Committee has met online only. The Show Committee has not met. There was no Youth Committee report, as there has been no forward progress on two Scout projects.

Lora Chilton is to check on the "Spring Hill Paper" for advertising rates for our fun Show.

There was a question regarding the November meeting’s postponing of a vote on amendments proposed in October. After some discussion, it was determined that our bylaws require forward movement on the matter, and that the amendments needed to go before the general membership for a vote. The amendments below were read. Darlene Dixon-Bottorff made a motion to approve the By-Law changes, 2nd by Kevin Williams. Motion passed 10 to 4.

The show this year will run from Sept. 17-19. As noted previously, beginning in 2011, once Sport Horse Nationals return to the Kentucky Horse Park, we will need to look at moving the dates of the Music City Show as to not conflict with SHN.

This year, Wed. before the show will be a ½ day for hauling in horses, but no riding will be allowed that day.

DRILL TEAM: Darlene said practices have been minimal during the winter, but the team is gearing up for an appearance at the Feathered Horse Classic at Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville on April 17.
